ACRIN Seeks Patient Advocate
Posted on: 01-24-2010

American College of Radiology Imaging Network (ACRIN) is seeking an experienced volunteer to serve on the Patient Advocacy Committee in the role of liaison to the Abdominal Scientific Committee.  Abdominal patient advocates represent the interests of the patient population in the development and conduct of medical imaging clinical trials in abdominal cancer.  Advocates are responsible for:
• reviewing and providing feedback on abdominal trial designs and patient materials
• participating in trial team conference calls related to abdominal clinical trials
• attending the ACRIN Fall Meeting held late September or early October, participating in quarterly Patient Advocacy Committee conference calls and occasionally attending the ACRIN Spring Meeting held in March

The ideal candidate is an abdominal cancer survivor or is closely related to an abdominal cancer patient, and will have a special understanding of the interests and needs of the patient population.

ACRIN is a National Cancer Institute (NCI) Clinical Trials Cooperative Group.  It is made up of investigators from over 100 academic and community-based medical facilities in the United States and abroad.  ACRIN’s mission is to coordinate clinical trials of medical imaging that will result in the earlier diagnosis of cancer and increased length and improved quality of life for cancer patients.
